The Great Masculinity Debate

The idea that ‘masculinity is toxic’ has become popular in the media, but has little basis in psychology. On the 11th of May a debate took place at University College London. The motion? ”This house does not believe that masculinity is toxic’.

Arguing against the motion were Michael Conroy (A Call To Men UK), Phil Price (Domestic Violence Intervention Project) and Leila Wildsmith (Regents College London).

Arguing for the motion were psychologists H Eli Joubert (University of Surrey), Naomi Murphy (HMPS Whitemoor) and Martin Seager (Central London Samaritans).

The audience at the debate voted both before and after they heard the arguments. Who won the debate? You might be surprised.
